Mozambique - Climate Resilience

Climate resilience - Water, nutrition and agriculture in drought-stricken communities in Inhambane province.

Inhambane Province, Funhalouro District

OBJECTIVE

The project aims to contribute to strengthen the resilience of the vulnerable population in Inhambane Province by improving agricultural production, access to clean water and the nutritional status of families, in response to climate change emergencies.

MMI ACTIVITIES

Medicus Mundi Italia coordinates activities related to health and nutrition, supporting the diagnosis, follow-up and epidemiological surveillance of cases of child malnutrition.

In details, MMI undertakes the following activities:

• training of health and social workers on diagnosis, treatment of malnutrition and good infant feeding practices;;
• specific activities of prevention, screening and treatment of malnutrition and anaemia for children and pregnant women and socio-health education sessions, with the organisation of Moveis Brigadas;
• supply of material needed for screening and follow-up of malnourished children and anaemia.

BENEFICIARIES

The total direct beneficiaries of the project will be around 9,000 people
Specifically, the beneficiaries of the malnutrition/anaemia action will be 4,800 children and 38 health and social workers involved in trainings. In addition, 1,350 small-scale cashew nut producers (30% of whom are women) will receive technical assistance and training. Finally, 705 families (about 2,820 people) are expected to be provided with access to drinking water.
The indirect beneficiaries of the intervention are the population of the target District, a total of 44,336 people.
