According to the FAO, approximately 193 million people worldwide experienced severe food insecurity in 2021, an increase of nearly 40 million from 2020. In 2020, approximately one-third of the world's population (2.37 billion) lacked adequate food access, which was 320 million more than in 2019.

Malnutrition affects 282 million people in Africa, putting us further away from achieving the 2030 Zero Hunger goal (SDG1). MMI is engaged in the fight against malnutrition in Burkina Faso, Burundi, and Mozambique through community-based programs focusing on prevention, screening, intake, and treatment of acute and chronic malnutrition. Additionally, the organization works on capacity building of local health systems in collaboration with partners.

The fight against malnutrition targets women and children through activities such as nutrition awareness and education, cooking demonstrations, and promotion of appropriate diets for mothers and children. This includes advocating for breastfeeding until at least 6 months of a child's life, providing nutritional support for children aged 6 to 23 months, and offering treatment for cases of acute malnutrition.”
