Water and food safety for vulnerable rural communities in Mozambique
AREA OF INTERVENTION
Panda, Funhalouro and Homoine Districts in Inhambane Province
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this project is to enhance access to water and nutrition for families in rural areas.
MMI ACTIVITIES
MMI's goal is to ensure services of the Nutritional Rehabilitation Program in rural communities in target districts through the following activities:
- Training of health and socio-health staff in health protocols for child malnutrition screening and treatment (PRN).
- Planning and implementatio of growth monitor visits and malnutrition screening for children <5 years old, referring the more severe cases to the nearest Health Center and specific nutrition education counseling for mothers on proper child nutrition and on recognizing malnutrition signs.
- Planning and implementation of nutritional education sessions and cooking demonstration for mothers, with a specific focus on families whose children are in day hospital treatment and are at high risk of malnutrition, as well as children receiving nutritional rehabilitation services due to severe malnutrition.
BENEFICIARIES
30.150 people will benefit from the project, including:
- 14.500 women trained on good nutritional practices for children;
- 15.500 children undergo growth monitoring and malnutrition screening sessions;
- 150 health and socio-health workers trained on malnutrition diagnosis and treatment.
Indirect beneficiaries of the project are 284.930 people residing in tge target districts.
