Community intervention against mother and child malnutrition in the Kiremba health district in Ngozi, Burundi
LOCATION
Kiremba, Marangara and Tangara, Kiremba Health District - Burundi
OBJECTIVE
The project aims to improve the nutritional conditions of the vulnerable population in the Kiremba Health Centers.
MMI activities

- Implementation of refresher courses on nutrition, malnutrition prevention, screening and treatment for nurses from the Health Centers
- Technical support for the Health Center staff in referring malnutrition cases from communities to the socio-health services
- Community education on prevention and rapid identification of malnutrition
- Theoretical and practical training for maman lumières on good nutrition, production and use of nutritional foods
- Creation of production plants for proteic foods
- Distribution of sustainable nutritional support foods to vulnerable families

BENEFICIARIES
The direct beneficiaries will be:
10,350 children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) without medical complications treated in the 23 therapeutic stabilization services
23 nurses in charge of the therapeutic stabilization services
46 maman lumières receive theoretical and practical training
12,420 women educated on nutrition and malnutrition prevention
The indirect beneficiaries will be 62,100 family members of children who are treated for SAM in the 23 Health Centers of the Kiremba District
