Strengthening Nutritional Security for Adequate Nutrition of Mothers and Children Aged 0–5 Years in the Centre-West Region

 

AREA OF INTERVENT

Health districts of Koudougou, Sabou, Léo, and Sapouy, Provinces of Boulkiemdé, Sissili, and Ziro, Centre-West Region, Burkina Faso

OBJECTIVE

The project aims to contribute to the improvement of the health and nutritional status of mothers and children under five in Burkina Faso. Specifically, the initiative seeks to reduce the prevalence of acute malnutrition among children under five in the Centre-West region through an integrated approach that combines community-level resilience measures with the strengthening of the health system.

MMI activities

An integrated approach is planned, combining training, awareness-raising, and direct interventions. Health workers from the districts of Koudougou, Sabou, Sapouy, and Léo will be trained to strengthen their skills in diagnosing and managing moderate and severe acute malnutrition. Educational sessions will also be conducted for mothers, who will learn how to prepare complementary foods using local ingredients, thus contributing to the nutritional recovery of children.

BENEFICIARIES

Direct beneficiaries include:

• 1,262 malnourished children
• 410 health workers and community health agents (ASBC)

Indirect beneficiaries, calculated per household, are estimated at 10,096 people.
